When my elementary school principal asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, she was caught off-guard by my choice: lab technician. Did I know exactly what a lab technician was? No. But I knew it had something to do with science, and I knew that scientists spent their lives questioning the world’s many quirks and mysteries. That’s how I wanted to spend my life too.

Twenty years and a Stanford Immunology Ph.D. later, I’m still chasing those questions. But now I’ve found a different outlet for my curiosity: journalism. I’ve contributed to newspapers, magazines, blogs and podcasts, and I’m now the West Coast Biotech & Life Sciences Reporter for STAT News.
